A cornucopia of biological diversity, Big Thicket National Preserve condenses an extraordinary array of natural habitats into a relatively small area of land. Cypress forests converge with hardwood forests, meadows, swamps, and even desert, resulting in a collection of wildlife that includes more than 180 different bird species, 50 reptile species, alligators, toads, frogs, and an untold number of trees, flowers, and plants. A nature lover's paradise, Big Thicket lies about 30 miles north of Beaumont, off U.S. Highway 69-287.
